Heidelmann "celebrates" 75th company anniversary
A glimpse into the past: 75 years ago, on May 1, 1946, the foundation stone for the Heidelmann logistics company was laid by Martha and Willy Heidelmann in Horschmühlenweg in Schwalmstadt-Treysa. At that time, probably no one expected – but certainly did hope – that an internationally operating family business, now in its 4th generation, with a diverse portfolio would develop from these modest beginnings.

The Heidelmann company started out very small, transporting building materials for the reconstruction of destroyed Germany after World War II. In the 1950s, a new business segment was added with furniture and removal transport.
The further development of the company, which by then was already increasingly focusing on temperature-controlled logistics, began in 1989 with the laying of the foundation stone for the first temperature-controlled high-bay warehouse at the new company location in Schwalmstadt. In the following years, this location was successively expanded to include further high-bay warehouses in the temperature ranges between minus 30° C and plus 20° C.
A further milestone was set in 1995, when Spedition Heidelmann GmbH entered into a strategically decisive and important partnership with DACHSER in the distribution of packaged foodstuffs. Customers can now be offered a comprehensive logistics service package in the temperature-controlled sector.
With the specialization in the new business field of pharmaceutical logistics in 2006, a further diversification of the Heidelmann companies takes place.
As a founding member of the European Food Network in June 2013, a new development takes place for Spedition Heidelmann GmbH in the area of food logistics, which from now on offers customers added value in European general cargo transports.
The largest single investment in the company's history was made at the beginning of 2020 with the construction of the new logistics facility in the new Schwalmstadt industrial estate 'In den Sauren Wiesen West'. In addition to a 4,500m² cross-docking hall, three high-bay warehouse units with a total of around 11,000 Euro pallet spaces, an office and technical building and a truck washing facility have been built, which means that Heidelmann now has a storage capacity of around 50,000 temperature-controlled Euro pallet spaces.
During the construction period, the news from the town of Schwalmstadt that the address of the new logistics facility will in future be Hans-Heidelmann-Strasse 1 was received with particular pleasure and great thanks, giving Hans Heidelmann great recognition for his life's work.
An equally big thank you is due to the many employees who have contributed their labor and know-how to our company during its 75-year history. Thanks to their dedication, commitment, knowledge, loyalty and faithfulness to the company, we are able to look back on a successful 75-year company history, whose story hopefully holds many more successful chapters in store.
