Fun at play and at work
[Transnational networks work when there are people behind them who communicate openly, pursue common goals and respect each other. In this article, Martin Schulz, Warehouse Logistics Specialist - Handling Hall Packaging at DACHSER Nuremberg, reports on which hobby benefits his professional success and which special character trait qualifies him for the logistics industry.
After my training at DACHSER, which I really enjoyed, I was asked by my superiors if I would like to start working in the handling hall packaging department. Of course I immediately agreed, because I appreciate it when my professional activities are as varied as possible - and here I knew exactly that I would find this variety. I also fulfilled all the requirements for the job: I have the forklift licence, extensive know-how about transshipment halls and - what is especially important - a large portion of empathy for the drivers. That's why I'm exactly the right person for the tasks in my field.
Apart from that, we attach great importance to high quality, punctuality and friendliness in our daily business - demands that I also make on myself and that we master really well together in our team. My tasks consist of checking e-mails, printing the daily lists, creating an overview at my workplace, handling the daily business, preparing handovers and, last but not least, taking inventory of the packaging materials so that I know exactly when which packaging material needs to be reordered. This task entails a lot of responsibility, but I like doing it - also because I definitely want to take advantage of the opportunities for promotion and further training. Moreover, scheduling the drivers is not an easy thing to do, but with time I got the hang of it.
In addition, one of my hobbies helps me to further develop my skills with regard to the logistics industry: In gaming, i.e. playing video games, the player has to have a good grasp of the game, often understand complex rules, act tactically smart and react as quickly as possible - all tasks that I also have to use in my job on a daily basis. In addition, I can relax after work, especially with sports.
But I can also switch off well at work during my lunch break. Together with my colleagues, I enjoy my meal in the break room and, if the weather is nice, also outside. Then we have time to talk and at the same time get a break from the day's business. Every now and then, when we feel like a change, we go out for something tasty. After that, we start up again and do our best for the customers.
I hope that I have been able to give you a little insight into my everyday professional life and that you have enjoyed reading it.
PS: Did you know that there are full-time gamers, i.e. video game players? My tip: if you get stuck in a video game, there are already a lot of platforms online where you can learn little tricks to get to the next level. Have fun with it!
Your Martin Schulz
