DACHSER supports Wings for Life World Run

The Wings for Life World Run has been held annually since 2014 under the motto “We’re running for those who can’t”. On 9 May 2021, tens of thousands of running enthusiasts from all over the world will line up to raise money for the Wings for Life charity. 100% of all fees and donations will go directly towards funding spinal research projects, with the goal of finding a cure for spinal cord injury. As Red Bull’s logistics partner, Dachser is supporting the run by covering all starting fees for its participating employees.

The organisers have come up with a smart way of holding the event while still complying with Covid-19 social distancing rules. This year, anyone can start from any point, anywhere in the world! The runners‘ routes are tracked by the Wings for Life World Run app via GPS. Instead of a conventional finishing line, a virtual “Catcher Car” will follow the runners in the app. Once the Catcher Car catches up with a runner, the race is over for that participant. Everyone can take part regardless of their fitness level. Wheelchair users, Nordic walkers and weekend joggers can take things easy, while more ambitious athletes can choose to aim for distances of 60 kilometres and more.

The donations collected from the run will go towards funding global high-calibre research projects and clinical studies aimed at treating and curing spinal cord injuries. Wings for Life is an officially registered charitable foundation and currently supports a total of 239 projects in 19 countries. It was established by Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz and two-times motocross world champion Heinz Kinigadner, whose son Hannes was paralysed in an accident in 2003.
