Proud employee for 18 years

[Transnational networks work when there are people behind them who communicate openly, pursue common goals and respect each other. With this look behind the scenes, we introduce you to employees within the European Food Network who, with their know-how and enthusiasm for the job, ensure that your food products are available across Europe every day. ]

In this article, Simon Fellmann, an expert in Controlling and Accounting as well as a Vocational Trainer for commercial employees at Galliker Transport AG, tells us why numbers play a big role in his life and how he can put his commercial talent to good use in his free time.

I already completed my training as a commercial employee at Galliker Transport AG and have now been a proud employee for 18 years. During my training, I quickly learned that I was good with numbers. Accounting was my absolute favourite subject at vocational school. A soft spot for numbers, mathematics and analytical thinking and good IT skills are essential in my job.

I don't have a classic working day - every day is different and brings new challenges. In the middle of each month, I deal with the monthly financial statements and check the business development of our branches. The results then determine my activities for the rest of the month. Obtaining and tracking the necessary figures is not always easy, because our accounting department is responsible for all Galliker locations in Switzerland. In some cases, transport and logistics services also run across branches. However, I am currently working intensively on digitalisation in our department. In addition, the administrative tasks related to the Galliker Green Logistics sponsorship association bring a lot of new exciting tasks to our day-to-day work.

What I particularly appreciate about my job is that I have a lot of room for self-fulfilment and that our management is always open to new ideas and suggestions for improvement.

In the field of accounting, there are countless opportunities to further your education or to specialise in certain areas. I, for example, completed my vocational baccalaureate after my apprenticeship. This gave me the opportunity to complete my bachelor's degree in business administration with a specialisation in controlling and accounting. A year ago, I also completed the expert training in controlling and accounting. Just as I was convinced for the profession in the past, it is my task today to inspire young people for our apprenticeship professions. After all, they are our future.

At Galliker, every employee lives the company's principles: we are trustworthy, honest, tidy and friendly. Specific to my job, correct and comprehensible balance sheets and income statements and careful handling of data are of course essential. In everyday life, I find the encounters with Galliker particularly nice. It's almost impossible not to come across one of our trucks on the roads in Switzerland. After a varied working day, I also like to be active in my free time. Not only do I like to ski, but I am also the finance director of the ski club in Dagmersellen. I also take care of my 14-hectare forest, which gives me a lot of pleasure.

I hope that I have been able to give you a little insight into my everyday working life and that you have enjoyed reading. Do you also like skiing? Then I would like to recommend one of my favourite ski resorts in Switzerland: In the summer and winter spa town of Stoos, boundless winter fun awaits you.
